Where is Hell?

Hell is basically a place where God is totally absent. God is pure good, so any place where he isn’t must be entirely bad.

Many people have heard God’s truth, but they refuse to accept him. They do not want God in their lives.

So when God sends people to hell, he is essentially giving them what they desired while alive on Earth. To be separated from him. To be where God isn’t. The thing is, humans were designed to be with God as eternal souls, to be a part of his family.

Hell attracts and repels humans. It attracts us because we want to be our own masters and have nothing to do with God. Yet it repels us, because the absence of God in our lives and souls leaves a terrible, empty void in our hearts.

This is why hell is such a painful place. It fulfills our desire, yet leaves us with the biggest want in our existence. Like an all-consuming fire.

You see, if a cat is designed to function on meat, and it is only fed vegetables, it will be lacking in vital nutrition (taurine, etc.). It will search and search for good food to satisfy its wants. If it does not find meat, it will go blind, waste away and die.

It is the same with a person. We are designed to have a spiritual want. If we do not know God or do not want him, we will search and search to find something that will satisfy our desire for more. We will immerse ourselves in our jobs and passions. We will climb the corporate ladder, ever scrounging for more money. We will obsess over our looks, convinced that a perfect body will make us content. We will buy more, eat more, travel more. We will pursue fleeting fame, seeking approval. We will throw ourselves into a relationship after relationship, trying to fill our void with intoxicating love. We will drown ourselves in drugs, alcohol, and despair when all else fails.

We all try and find true contentment and peace of mind, in these many ways and more. But eventually, a lot of people will forget about God completely.

They think of him as silly, a waste of time in such an unsatisfying world. Perhaps some of them (if they care enough about the matter) will give ‘logical reasons’, ‘proof’ or ‘evidence’ to try and show that God is non-existent and that their ‘God is silly/outdated’ mindset is justified.

But sadly, their spirits will go blind, waste away, and fall into hell, where one desire will be met, but their deepest need will go unquenched forever.

God does truly loves us. He wants to spare us this. But he can only do so if we give him permission. All we need to do to break the cycle of discontent is to accept him and obey him.

Just under 2000 years ago, Jesus, the Son of God, showed us how much he cared about each one of us, that he died a terrible death to save us from this hell. He descended into that void himself, down in the grave. But three days later, he rose up and came to life again, and promised that we could do the same, should we accept what happened to him as truth.

Then can the void in our souls be filled, and then can we go to heaven, where there is a complete presence of God.
