This is the answer to mass school shootings. It is the same answer that high-value targets use for their security. The world over
1. Comprehensive security survey (by local law enforcement or security professionals)
2. Perimeter secured with security fencing.
3. Gates locked and with metal detectors and only opened by security or designated School Employees.
4. Trained and armed security sufficient to cover school grounds adequately.
5. School identification system.
All visitors can be given a temporary identification card that tracks their whereabouts in the building.
The primary focus needs to be switched from education to protection. While, it's unfortunate, that is the world in we presently live. There seems no changing that in the immediate future. The first priority must be in protecting the children while they are in school.
This is simply standard procedure when it comes to securing a soft and vulnerable site
